Happy Endings
An update on some of our recent adoptions.
"Stewie"
adopted June 19, 2012
Every now and then we meet a cat that is - in our opinion - perfect. It's got the personality. It loves attention. It loves humans. It even sometimes acts like a dog! And we are amazed when a cat like this doesn't get adopted immediately. One of those cats came to us last April and waited patiently for his new home. But boy, did Stewie get himself a real happy ending. Here's an update from his adopter:
Stewie is awesome!! He is such a love.
He adjusted quite nicely with myself and my husband including our two chihuahuas Stanley and Gretchen. He really does have a dog-like personality. He follows me all around the house and talks (meows) to me. His favorite thing to do is sit in all the windows and keep watch over the neighborhood. My neighbors have even commented to me about how much they love seeing him in the window.
All in all, Stewie has brought us much happiness. We had to put our cat down in April and I told my husband no more cats. Well, I really feel like my house was missing something after and that one day we walked into PetSmart and saw Stewie we just knew. I love my dogs but there is nothing like having a cat. Stewie's purring and the little pitter patter of his BIG feet are so comforting. I just love that boy so much!!

"Anita" (now "Ginger")
adopted July 8, 2012
Anita, now called Ginger, is quite happy, reports her Mom, Susan. Ginger gets along very well with their other cat, Fenway. Susan included a photo of Ginger in her favorite spot on the second floor landing window seat (that once belonged to be Fenway!) She loves to look out the window at the birds and squirrels. Found as a stray with a newborn kitten, Anita came to PALS a bit undernourshied. Susan reports she has gained a little weight and is in perfect condition. Still a little nervous about being in a new place, Ginger makes herself right at home and is loved dearly. Susan wanted the volunteers and friends of PALS to know that "Ginger will be well cared for and loved and want for nothing her entire life." Ginger is one lucky girl!

"Fluffernutter"
adopted June 19, 2012
Fluffernutter was rescued as a stray along with his mother, Anita (see above story.) Like Anita, Fluffernutter is bringing his new family joy. Here is an update from his new Mom, Phyllis:
Fluffernutter is wonderful! He has loads of toys : his favorites are the Dr. Daniel's cats and his new Cat Dancer. His favorite spots in his new home are the glass-topped dining room table and lying 1/2 on, 1/2 off my computer when I'm tryng to get things done. He purrs constantly and recognizes my car and rubs against the window when I approach. He loves to wake me in the morning with a nudge on my feet to let me know, no doubt, that it's time for his breakfast. But if it's too early (like 5AM!) he waits like a good boy. We are in love....
Thank you for rescuing this wonderful guy for me!!

"Buddy"
adopted July 21, 2012
Updates always put a smile on the faces of our volunteers, but this one was extra-special. Buddy spent many long months in our Adoption Center waiting for the right home which surprised most of us as he was a wonderful, playful, friendly cat (known for his big-brother relationship with the more timid Scamp.) We were beyond thrilled when he was finally chosen to live with a family in Salem. The partnership has proven to be a success. We recently received this good news: Buddy is a "silly, over-sized kitten who has been thriving in his new home. He loves all, and all love him." It just goes to show that patience - ours and his - pays off!

"Hanna" (now "Chloe")
adopted November 26, 2011
Brenda, who adopted Hanna as a kitten, is thrilled to be able to share this Summer 2012 update with us:
Chloe, (then Hanna) is doing amazing. She is the "Princess" of the house. She was once so timid and shy but now she is a bold and curious kitty. She loves relaxing on her pink body pillow. Chloe has been such a positive addition to our family. She is loved very much and puts a smile on our faces each and every day."
Hanna, now Chloe, all grown up but still just as pretty!
Chloe loves her pink body pillow
"Felice" (now "Aleesha")
adopted April 29, 2012
Felice waited patiently for the perfect new home
We spent months scratching our heads wondering why Felice was in our Adoption Center for so long. Now we know it's because she was waiting patiently for Debra to find her. Here is part of the update provided by Felice's new Mom on May 6:
"Rest assured Felice is being loved, cherished and adored! I have given her a version of her name, and
Felice (now Aleesha) enjoying her comfy bedcall her Aleesha. The first night at her new home, Aleesha immediately took over---used her litter box, scratching post, and had a nice, hearty dinner. I introduced her to her magnificent soft, large, fluffy bed, and she said, 'um, I don't think so,' and promptly jumped into a very large basket. I placed her pink quilted pad that she brought with her into the basket, and this is her new 'spot.' Aleesha must have spent the first few days just stretching! She even let me rub her belly a bit, and we spent hours scratching her behind her ears. She likes to be brushed, too.
Aleesha's tunnel - one of her many toysAnd the toys. The toys! Her favorite is the popular long curved wire toy with the little pieces of rolled cardboard at the end. I run around the apartment with it, and she flies over furniture, onto furniture, around furniture, onto the bed-----such great exercise---we love to run! But nothing---nothing---matches the 'laser' pen. This is the caviar of toys; we love the laser pen. Eventually, she plops into the basket just spent, and I've been 'dismissed,' for now.
She sleeps next to me in bed, sometimes on my chest or back, sometimes under the covers. At 6:30 am she has trained me to rise and serve breakfast. That little squeak voice just runs and runs until the plate is placed in front of her.
Thank you for loving her so much, and allowing me to bring her into my home---she's my baby, and I'm the mommy. Just a perfect arrangement!"
"Angie" (now "Geri")
adopted March 31, 2012
Angie, prior to adoption
According to her adoptive family, Geri has been eating well in her new home and has filled out, but is still a tiny 6lbs. She loves to hang out in the same room with everyone and be part of the action, but is still a bit hesitant when approached. However, she eagerly runs to a bed and jumps up to receive attention and petting.

"Camelia" (now "Chanel")
adopted February 25, 2012
Camelia, before adoption
Camelia, newly renamed Chanel, clearly enjoys being a spoiled only kitty. Her adoptive Mom, who has not had a cat for many years, says she spends more on Chanel than she does on herself. Rumor has it Chanel even has a princess bed! She has come a long way since being abandoned at an apartment complex -- and deserves all of the luxurious attention!

"Mario" (now "Rami")
adopted January 15, 2012
Mario, once a shy kitty
Andrea sent this note to update us on Mario (renamed Rami) who many remember as being a shy -- but loveable -- cat.
"Rami is doing fabulous. He's really filled out. We make sure he gets plenty of love and exercise -- I recently taught him how to jump through a hoop! I just can't even begin to tell you how much my husband and I love him."
We are sure Rami returns the sentiment -- just look at his view!

and much-loved
"Merlin"
adopted October 21, 2011
Merlin, one of our oldest cats, loves exploring his new home
Merlin was rescued from a makeshift home in a box, under a tarp
A heartfelt note from Merlin's adopter, Alex:
To say that I can't imagine not having Merlin around would be the understatement of the century. It didn't take him long to make himself right at home, and in fact, he jumped up on my bed and curled up next to me on his very first night here. He has free run of the whole downstairs, but can usually be found snoozing on a pile of blankets I left on one side of the couch for him. He's also become quite a bit more vocal since he moved in, and isn't shy about making it known when he's out of food or wants attention. I spoil him absolutely rotten to the point where my girlfriend has taken to calling me a "crazy cat lady". She's not wrong; he's sitting next to me as I type this, purring loudly, and inching closer to the bag of salmon-flavored treats I keep around for him.
He is an amazing cat, and I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to give him a safe, warm home where he can just relax and enjoy life.
